New Zealand: after the AMIS approach in July, now it is the turn of Medacta GMK SPHERE

Medacta International is proud to announce that the first GMK SPHERE surgeries have been performed at the Southern Cross Hospital in Hamilton (New Zealand) by Mr. Peter Black. These total knee replacement surgeries have been performed with the use of GMK Efficiency, the complete Medacta set of single use instruments.

The GMK SPHERE has been designed to deliver maximum functional stability with the aim of increasing TKA patient satisfaction during activities of daily living and decreasing post-operative knee pain. The GMK Sphere medial ball-in-socket mechanism can replicate the function and the stability provided by the natural stabilisers of the knee, most of which are removed during total knee replacement. Published studies[1] confirm that patients prefer knees with a medial ball-and-socket compared to other conventional knee designs, as they feel more stable, more natural and stronger during daily activities.

The GMK SPHERE can be implanted using GMK Efficiency, a complete single use instrument solution which was conceived to optimize instrument management, providing significant benefits in the O.R. and throughout the hospital supply chain.

“I’m really satisfied with the interventions. With patients’ expectations becoming higher and higher, the GMK SPHERE can provide excellent stability and I have already planned three more surgeries in the next weeks.” said Mr. Peter Black, who experienced the unique education program organized by the M.O.R.E. Institute and attended a learning center with hands on assisted wet lab, in Sydney (Australia) in August 2018.

Firmly convinced that innovation requires Education, the M.O.R.E. Institute has created a comprehensive Education Program which supports the surgeon step-by-step in the application of the Medacta Knee innovative solutions.

“Surgical education and training has been a pillar of Medacta’s mission and identity since the company began. We believe it is the foundation for optimal clinical outcomes and both patient and surgeon satisfaction.” said Francesco Siccardi, CEO of Medacta International.
